How to Get Your Private Key from Phantom

SolBundler Team · Updated November 2026 · 5 min read

Phantom lets you show the private key of any Solana account in a few clicks. You need it to move that account into another wallet, use it in a tool that signs for you, or keep an offline backup of a single account.

The key gives full control of the wallet, so read the safety part before you copy it anywhere.

On desktop (browser extension)

  1. 1Open the Phantom extension and click your profile avatar in the top-left corner.
  2. 2Click the gear icon to open Settings, then click Manage Accounts.
  3. 3Click the account whose key you need.
  4. 4Click Show Private Key and enter your Phantom password.
  5. 5Choose the Solana network. The key is shown as a long string of letters and numbers — copy it.

On mobile (Phantom app)

  1. 1Open the Phantom app and tap your profile avatar in the top-left corner.
  2. 2Go to Settings, then Manage Accounts.
  3. 3Tap the three-dot icon next to the account.
  4. 4Tap Show Private Key and confirm with your password or Face ID.
  5. 5Choose Solana, then view or copy the key.

If Show Private Key is missing

Wallets created with Google or Apple sign-in keep their keys in Phantom's secure key storage, so Phantom does not show a private key for them. You can still back up the recovery phrase under Settings, Security & Privacy.

A Ledger or other hardware wallet never reveals its keys — that is the point of it. And if Solana is not in the list of networks, turn it on under Settings, Active Networks.

Private key or recovery phrase?

The private key controls one account on one network. The recovery phrase — 12 or 24 words — restores every account in the wallet. To move one Solana account somewhere else, the private key is enough; to back up the whole wallet, use the phrase.

To see the phrase: avatar, Settings, Security & Privacy, Show Recovery Phrase. Treat it with even more care than a key.

Keep the key safe

  • Anyone who has the key controls the wallet. They can move every token in it, and there is no way to reverse it.
  • Phantom support, exchanges and real projects never ask for your private key or recovery phrase. Anyone who does is trying to take your funds.
  • Never paste a key into a site that asks you to "validate", "sync" or "claim" something. That is the most common way wallets are drained.
  • Do not keep the key in screenshots, notes apps, email or cloud drives. Write it down, or keep it in a password manager you trust.
  • Clear your clipboard after pasting it, and never paste it into a chat by mistake.

Using keys in launch and trading tools

Tools that buy or sell from several wallets at once — bundlers, volume bots, snipers — need those wallets' keys to sign. The safe way is to keep them separate from your main wallet: create fresh wallets for the tool, fund them with only what you plan to use, and withdraw back when you are done. Questions

What is the difference between a private key and a recovery phrase?

A private key controls one account on one network. The recovery phrase (12 or 24 words) can restore every account in the wallet. Exporting a private key is the narrower of the two — share neither.

Why is there no Show Private Key option?

Wallets created with Google or Apple sign-in keep their keys in Phantom's secure key storage, so Show Private Key is not available — you can still back up the recovery phrase. Ledger and other hardware wallets never reveal keys at all. If the Solana network is missing from the list, turn it on under Settings, Active Networks.

Can I import a Phantom private key into another wallet?

Yes. Solflare, Backpack and most other Solana wallets have an option to import a wallet with a private key when you add an account. Paste the key there and the same address and balances appear.

What should I do if I shared my private key?

Treat the wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet and move everything to it right away — tokens, SOL and any NFTs. Changing your Phantom password does not help, because the key itself is exposed.

Do trading tools need my private key?

Tools that trade from several wallets for you — bundlers, volume bots, snipers — need those wallets' keys to sign. Use fresh wallets made for that purpose, fund them with only what you plan to use, and never import your main wallet.
